Almost anytime between May and October is a great time to visit Croatia. Temperatures are relatively pleasant in May; coastal temperatures may be in the low 20's(°C) and there will be a good amount of sunshine. Swimming is possible then too, although it may be on the chilly side (especially early in the month). The further south you go, the warmer the sea will be.
September will still see very good weather and the sea will be warm enough for swimming. The pleasant swimming weather often stretches into October.
The months of June, July and August are of course the height of summer with near-perfect weather. This is the peak time which attracts many crowds and prices are at the highest.
Croatia enjoys three different climates:
- Coast - A pleasant Mediterranean climate with a high number of days of sunshine per year. Summers are hot and dry, and winters are mild and wet.
- Inland - Temperatures drop slightly as you move inland, where the climate is continental and moderate.
- Mountains - Once you climb above 1,200 m, you will be greeted with fresh mountain air and temperatures around 13 ºC in the summer months.
